ANA TORROJA, DISTINGUIDA POR LA ACADEMIA LATINA DE LA GRABACIÓN CON EL PREMIO A LA EXCELENCIA MUSICAL
La Academia Latina de la Grabación® anunció hoy que Ana Torroja, junto a Carmen Linares, Mijares, Arturo Sandoval, Simone y Soda Stereo recibirán el Premio a la Excelencia Musical de este año. Además, Alex Acuña, Gustavo Santaolalla y Wisón Torres recibirán el Premio del Consejo Directivo.
“Estamos muy honrados por la oportunidad de reconocer a estas grandes figuras iberoamericanas, cuyo legado musical continúa inspirado a las nuevas generaciones,” dijo Manuel Abud, CEO de La Academia Latina de la Grabación. “Esperamos poder celebrar sus virtuosas trayectorias durante la Semana del Latin GRAMMY® en Sevilla el próximo noviembre.”
El Premio a la Excelencia Musical se otorga a intérpretes que durante su carrera han hecho contribuciones creativas de sobresaliente valor artístico a la música latina y sus comunidades. El Premio del Consejo Directivo se otorga a personas que han realizado importantes contribuciones a la música latina durante su carrera, pero no necesariamente en la forma de interpretaciones. El Consejo Directivo de La Academia Latina de la Grabación vota para ambas distinciones.
Se homenajeará a los galardonados en un evento privado durante la Semana del Latin GRAMMY, el domingo, 12 de noviembre de 2023, en el Teatro Lope de Vega en Sevilla, España. Alex Hadad será el productor ejecutivo del evento, trabajando bajo la dirección del equipo de producción de La Academia Latina de la Grabación dirigido por Ayleen Figueras.
Ana Torroja se convirtió en estrella de la música pop internacional en los años ochenta, como la carismática voz del trío español Mecano. El icónico grupo alcanzó niveles de éxito sin precedentes, vendiendo más de 25 millones de discos en todo el mundo. En 1997 Torroja emprendió su carrera en solitario con el exitoso lanzamiento de Puntos cardinales, y tras la disolución definitiva de Mecano un año después, se destacó como sofisticada cantautora que experimentaba con un estimulante mosaico de estilos. En 1999 Torroja volvió a sorprender a sus seguidores con su segundo álbum, Pasajes de un sueño, en el que abandonó los éxitos del pasado que predominaban en la radio por un sonido más cosmopolita, como las canciones “Ya no te quiero” y “Dentro de mí». Recorrió el mundo con Girados (2000), en concierto con su amigo, el legendario Miguel Bosé, con quien luego grabaría “Corazones”. Sigue grabando y presentándose en Europa y el continente americano, siempre comprometida tanto a su fiel audiencia como con el género que lleva defendiendo de forma magistral durante más de cuatro décadas.
The Latin Recording Academy® announced today that Ana Torroja, Carmen Linares, Mijares, Arturo Sandoval, Simone and Soda Stereo will receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, as part of its annual Special Awards Presentation. Additionally, Alex Acuña, Gustavo Santaolalla and Wisón Torres will receive the Trustees Award.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to performers who have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to Latin music and its communities. The Trustees Award is bestowed on individuals who have made significant contributions to Latin music during their careers in ways other than performance. Both distinctions are voted on by The Latin Recording Academy’s Board of Trustees.
The honorees will be celebrated during a private event as part of Latin GRAMMY® Week on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, in the Teatro Lope de Vega in Sevilla, Spain. Alex Hadad will serve as executive producer of the event, working under the direction of The Latin Recording Academy’s production team led by Ayleen Figueras.
Ana Torroja became an international pop star in the 1980s as the charismatic voice of the Spanish pop trio Mecano. The iconic group achieved unprecedented levels of success, selling more than 25 million records worldwide. In 1997 Torroja embarked on a solo career with the successful release of Puntos Cardinales, and following the band’s definitive breakup a year later, she blossomed as a sophisticated singer/songwriter experimenting with exhilarating mosaic of styles. In 1999 Torroja surprised her fans again with her second album, Pasajes De Un Sueño, which abandoned the radio-friendly hits of the past in favor of a more cosmopolitan sound, with songs like “Ya No Te Quiero” and “Dentro De Mí.» She toured the world with Girados (2000), a joint concert with her friend, the legendary Miguel Bosé, with whom she would later record “Corazones.” She continues to be active in the recording studio and the concert halls of Europe and the Americas, always committed to both her loyal audience and to the genre she has been masterfully defending for more than four decades.
